You Don’t Have to Make Everyone Just Like You

Have you ever caught yourself expecting everyone around you to think, act, or live exactly the way you do? It’s an easy trap to fall into, especially when we are passionate about our beliefs, values, or way of life. But when we look closely at history and human connection, that is never what it’s supposed to be about.

Beyond the Boundaries

If you look at the book of Acts—specifically chapters 14 and 15—you see a fascinating shift. The early gospel message started breaking way beyond the boundaries of the ethnic church. Suddenly, brand new people from outside those traditional circles were starting to follow the Lord.

Naturally, tension arose. The ethnic church initially felt that these newcomers had to follow traditions and become just like them. This sparked a massive conversation known as the Jerusalem Council.

A Powerful Realization

By the end of that deliberation, everyone realized a profound truth: the Jewish congregation was Jewish so that Gentiles could hear about God.

It didn’t mean the newcomers had to become like them culturally or ethnically; it meant they needed to join with the God they loved.

Making People Like Christ, Not Like Us

That is an amazing principle for everyday life. When someone comes to faith or steps into a new community, our goal shouldn't be to mold them into our own image.

  • The Old Trap: Expecting everyone to look, talk, and act just like us.
  • The True Calling: Introducing people to Christ and helping them follow Him.

When someone comes to faith, you don’t have to make them like you—you get to help make them like Christ.

How has this principle played out in your own walk of life? Let's discuss in the comments below!
